Be Exalted, God Above The Heavens

In Psalm 57:5, the Psalmist cries out, “Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; Let Your glory be above all the earth.” This is so awesome that he repeats it again in verse 11. Our great God rules and reigns over the universe. His power is infinite; His glory untold, and His authority is over the all things. He is the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End, the great I Am.

Truly there is none to compare Him to. His sovereignty is unquestioned. He is Creator, Savior, and King. He is exalted above the heavens; let Him be exalted in my heart! The Lord Jesus has the power and authority to command and demand, but He gives us choice to obey Him. He is more glorified in our freewill than in all His creatures that have no decision-making power.

But why then do we doubt Him? Why do we question Him? There are things in life that are hard to understand and we must leave these matters in the hands of God. He knows best. He has all wisdom. We won’t fully know the “whys” until we get to heaven.

An unexpected delay in New York caused a Christian man to narrowly miss his flight 191 in Chicago, which crashed killing all 254 people on board. Amazingly, that same day a godly pastor, Edwards E. Elliott ran to make that same flight. His plane from Pennsylvania was late and a friend who accompanied him to Chicago said he last saw him “dashing forward” in the terminal to make his connection. Was divine providence working only in New York and not in Chicago?

God’s purposes are served fully when we commit ourselves to fully serve Him. There is indeed great peace in knowing the Lord is with us and no matter what happens to us, we can glorify His name in all the earth. Every day we live gives us the opportunity to glorify our Lord and exalt His name on this earth. A.W. Tozer once remarked, “With the goodness of God to desire our highest welfare, the wisdom of God to plan it, and the power of God to achieve it, what do we lack?” Let us say with Psalmist, “Be exalted, O God, above the heavens.”
